What is Lent?

In the earliest years of the Church, the season before Easter that we now call Lent was a time when newcomers to the faith were instructed in all the stories that make that faith up, especially the stories of Jesus. Nowadays we still begin the season telling the story of Jesus as he is baptized in the Jordan River. As he emerges from the water the Holy Spirit descends on him in the form of a dove, hovering just over his head. And a voice booms from heaven, “This is my Son, my Beloved. In him I am well pleased!”

Georgia Writers Museum hosts local area authors
