Bettie Hamilton

Mrs. Bettie J. Fordham Hamilton, 83, passed away on June 17, 2016. The graveside funeral service was Monday, June 20 at 1 p.m. in Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Hamilton was born in Paducah, Ky. and had lived at Lake Sinclair for many years.

She was the daughter of the late Warren Anthony Fordham and Pauline Henderson Fordham. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Warren J. Fordham and Charles Edwin Fordham and a sister, Nancy Carol Hamilton. 

Mrs. Hamilton was the first head librarian at Shurlington Memorial Library and had retired from Middle Georgia Regional Library.

Mr. James “Chicken” Porter of 125 Gregory Lane, Eatonton departed this life Friday, June 10, 2016 at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon.

James Porter III was born on Nov. 18, 1943 in Eatonton to parents James Porter II and Lossie Mae Lawrence. 

He joined Union Baptist Church at an early age. He had a passion for gardening, fishing and hunting. He was employed at Food Max in Eatonton until the business closed.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mattie and Lawson Harris; aunts, Ruth Robertson, Mattie Lou Mercer and Christine Harris; uncles, James Harris, Johnny Harris, and Benny Harris.

Jerrell Jackson

Mr. Jerrell Luther Jackson, 76, of Eatonton, formerly of Lithonia, died Sunday, June 5, 2016.

The funeral service was Wednesday, June 8 at Scot Ward’s Green Meadow Chapel with the Rev. James Smith officiating. Interment followed in Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery in  Putnam County.

Mr. Jackson was preceded in death by his parents, George and Estelle Jackson.

Mr. Jackson was a warehouse manager with Lennox Heating and Air and retired after 40 years of service.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, softball and NASCAR.

He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, who will be missed by all.

Pastor Alvin Leon McNabb

Pastor Alvin Leon McNabb, 77, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2016.

The funeral service was Wednesday, June 8 at Grace Baptist Church of Eatonton with burial in the Georgia Veteran Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville.

Pastor Leon was a native of Dexter, N.M. He was the son of the late Alvin McNabb and the late Katherine O’Brian McNabb.

He was a pastor for 43 years with a bachelor’s degree in Theology from Piedmont Bible College in North Carolina. Ministry was his life. He preached in various cities throughout his career and served as interim pastor for Grace Baptist Church. He also devoted many years to working in prison ministry.

People may know him best as “Mr. Leon,” a beloved greeter at the Milledgeville Walmart store.

Ms. Mary Lizzie Welch-Scott was born Nov. 10, 1931 to Albert “Buddy” Welch and Julia Riley-Welch in Eatonton; she was the second of 17 children born. 

She married the late Mr. Joseph Scott and they relocated to Atlanta, where she worked hard and raised four beautiful children. Mrs. Scott was preceded in death by two of her children, Clara Mae Scott and Anthony J. Scott; she is survived by a son, Jeffery B. Scott; and a daughter, Vannessa C. Scott-Henderson.

Mrs. Margaret Mae Baughcum Murphy, 75, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2016. 

The service will be private.

Mrs. Murphy was a native of Brunswick.

She was the daughter of the late Andrew Davis Baughcum and the late Lula Mae Bartlet Baughcum. 

She was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son, Ricky Murphy of Eatonton; a daughter, Debbie Coleman of Hogansville; grandchildren, Anthony Cahill of Eatonton, Timothy Coleman of Hogansville, Cody Murphy of Monroe, Buck Parker of Eatonton and Benitta Bryant of Hall County; and a sister, Montine Vowell of Loganville.

Fredree Taylor

Fredree (Freda) Taylor, 83, died peacefully May 29, 2016 at her home on Lake Sinclair after an extended illness.

The funeral service was Thursday, June 2 at St. Stephens Episcopal Church with Father David Probst officiating.

Freda was born in Molena, graduated from Waycross High School and later as a registered nurse from Georgia Baptist Hospital.

Loving wife, mother, grandmother, phenomenal cook, avid reader, dedicated friend and member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Milledgeville, she will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gus L. and Grace Jameson Stribling; her sister, Dorothy Youmans and brother-in-law, Clint Youmans; and her nephew, Dave Youmans.

David Webb

Funeral services for Mr. William David Webb, 78, of Milledgeville were Saturday, June 4, 2016 in Williams Funeral Home Chapel of Milledgeville. Burial was Tuesday, June 7 in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Wallace, S.C.

Mr. Webb was a native of Wallace, S.C. and had made his home in Milledgeville for a number of years. 

He was predeceased by his parents, Sydney Boyd Webb and Maude Chavis Webb and his siblings.

Survivors include his sons,  Wayne (Tammy) Webb of Milledgeville and David Webb (Amy Dragoo) of Bennettsville, S.C.; two grandsons, Wayne Webb Jr. of Milledgeville and Hunter Webb of Bennettsville, S.C.

Cameron Lee Murray passed away Monday, May 16, 2016 in her hometown of Eatonton.

Survivors include her parents, Mark and Sue Murray; three sisters, Constance Williard, Kimberly McKenzie and Karen Murray; five nieces and nephews, Derek Murray, Mark McKenzie, Michael McKenzie, Cameron McKenzie, and Elise Williard.

Linwood Carnes

Linwood Carnes, 89, passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2016.

He was born in Eatonton on Aug. 30, 1926 to the late Sidney Terrell Carnes and Mattie Linch Carnes.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Carlton Carnes (Suzanne) and Frances Allen (David).

He was a member of First Independent Methodist Church and was a very passionate and active member there.

He had served on the Putnam County Board of Education, was involved in the establishment of Gatewood School and was a member of the local chapter of the VFW.

The funeral service was Sunday, May 29 at First Independent Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Burial followed at Eatonton Memorial Park.
