Rebecca “Becky” Howard Williams, 87, died on Aug. 6, 2016. 

She grew up in Putnam County, graduated from Eatonton High School in 1945 and from Auburn University in 1948, where she earned a degree in business administration. After graduation, she moved to Cobb County, where she worked and lived for more than 65 years. 

She was elected clerk of State Court in 1976 and re-elected to that office for five terms serving until her retirement in 1993. She was known around Cobb County for “her ability to get the job done.”

Mr. Bobby Ray Scoggins, 69, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 18, 2016. The funeral service  was conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 22 in the Chapel of Williams Funeral Home of Milledgeville. Interment followed in Heritage Memorial Park.

The family received friends at the funeral home on Sunday, August 21  from 4-6 p.m.

Mr. Scoggins was a native of Bartow, Fla. and moved to Milledgeville in 1956.  He owned and operated Scoggins Stores. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and clay shooting. He was the son of the late Aaron Dupree Scoggins and Florine Etheridge Scoggins.

Betty Katherine Reed

BLACK MOUNTAIN, NC -- Betty Katherine Reed, 95, passed away quietly in her bed at her Highland Farms home in Black Mountain, N.C. on Saturday, June 18, 2016. 

She was born in Willard, Ohio on January 11, 1921 to Hazel Clark Johnston and Bruce Lavern Johnston.

She attended schools in Willard, Ohio, where she met Paul Reed shortly before he went to serve in the armed forces in World War II. During the war she worked in an Army Depot and was married on Dec. 24, 1943, when Paul was released on furlough for a quick Christmas Eve ceremony before returning to the European theater.

Mrs. Frances Mae Simmons Tennille, 89, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2016. The funeral service was conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 12 in the Chapel of Williams Funeral Home of Milledgeville. Interment followed in Memory Hill Cemetery.

The family received friends at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the service hour.

Mrs. Tennille was a native of Putnam County, had lived in Delray Beach, Fla. and moved back to Lake Sinclair in 1988.

She was the daughter of the late James Pearman Simmons and Flossie Heath Simmons. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Tennille Sr.; and sons, William Tennille Jr. and David Harris Tennille.

Mrs. Willie Louise Taylor

Mother Willie Louise Taylor, 84, of 148 Loblolly Drive, Eatonton, transitioned to eternal rest Sunday, July 31, 2016 at Agape Hospice. 

Mother Taylor was born on Sept. 4, 1931 in Eatonton, to the late Mary Ann Johnson and Tommy Sadler. 

She was a devoted member of Zion Covenant Fellowship. She had a love for God, which motivated her to be a faithful servant until her health failed.

Mother Taylor was a kind and humble person. She would go out of her way for anyone in need; she had a deep love for all of her children and shared a very special bond with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Craig Gardner

Mr. Steven “Craig” Gardner, 42, passed away on Aug. 6, 2016. 

The funeral service was Tuesday, Aug. 9 at 2:30 p.m. in the Williams Funeral Home Chapel in Milledgeville. A private burial took place in Crest Lawn Cemetery in Eatonton.

The family received friends at Williams Funeral Home on Tuesday from 1 p.m. until the service hour.

Mr. Gardner was a native of Atlanta and lived in Eatonton for a number of years before moving to Milledgeville four years ago. 

He worked for Southern Pipe and Supply and was attending Northside Baptist Church. 

Mr. Gardner was preceded in death by his mother, Sherry Hill Gardner; and grandmother, Lois Hill.

Mary “Evelyn” Hunnicutt Godwin

Mary “Evelyn” Hunnicutt Godwin was born Oct. 13, 1932 in the Rehoboth community. Her parents were Shirley A Christian and Mary Cobb Christian Daws. 

She died July 20, 2016. 

Mrs. Godwin was married to Tommy Hunnicutt, who preceded her in death. She later married the now late Arthur Godwin. 

Mrs. Godwin was a member of Buckhead Baptist Church. 

She was retired after having worked at Morgan Sportswear and Rutledge Sportswear. 

She enjoyed sewing and quilting.

Mr. Ronald “Ronnie” Gordon Owens

Mr. Ronald “Ronnie” Gordon Owens, 67, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2016. 

A memorial service will be conducted at a later date. 

Mr. Owens was a native of Atlanta. 

He was the son of the late Harold Gordon Owens and Rebecca Ann Owens. 

“Ronnie” served the country honorably in the U.S. Navy. 

He loved his family as well as his three dogs, Bailey, Maggie and Molly. 

Mr. Owens is survived by his wife, Candi Owens of Eatonton; his son, Bryan (Emily) Owens of Cincinnati, Ohio; his daughter, Stefanie Owens of Orlando, Fla.; and two grandchildren, Wyatt and Sofie Owens of Cincinnati, Ohio; and his good friend, Libby Sherman of Eatonton.

Mrs. Louise Brown Bales

Mrs. Bales passed away Saturday, Aug. 6, 2016. 

She was a native of Macon, made her home in Warner Robins for a number of years before she and her late husband, Louis Grady Bales, moved to Lake Sinclair. 

She was a homemaker and was predeceased by her husband and son, Gary Louis Bales.

The funeral service for Mrs. Louise Brown Bales, 89, was conducted Wednesday, Aug. 10 at 2 p.m. in Williams Funeral Home in Milledgeville. Interment followed in Baldwin Memorial Gardens.

The family received friends at the funeral home Wednesday, from 1 p.m. until the service hour.

Margaret Marie “Siscole” Cole, 77 of Milledgeville, passed away Aug. 4, 2016. 

The deceased was survived by her son, Kenneth W. Cole; grandson, Kenneth W. Cole Jr.; two granddaughters, Sheneka N. Vinson (Brandon) and Stacie R. Allen; four great-grandchildren, Skylar, Olivia, Jay and Bryce; two brothers, Glenwood Cole Sr. and Raymond Cole; five sisters, Brenda Hudson, Barbara Evans, Virginia Ingram, Frances Cole and Maxine Cole-Waller; two aunts, Johnnie Mae Cole-Humphries and Evelyn Cole-Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, surrogate children and special friends. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Margaret Cole Sr.; her brother, Herman Cole; and two sisters, Helen Cole and Irene Cole.
