Mr. Ross Willis Roberts

Ross Willis Roberts, 85, passed away Sunday, July 17, 2016. 

A memorial service was conducted Tuesday, July 19 at 2 p.m. at Marshall Memorial Baptist Church of Eatonton. The family received friends from 1 p.m. until service time.

Ross was born in Murphy, N.C. to James W. and Leoria Huey Roberts. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Collis, Fred, Roy, Ralph, and Raymond Roberts; sisters, Pauline Edwards, Reba Griffin and Rovena Mashburn;  and a great-grandchild, Roselyn Fullmore.

Mr. Roberts was a Korean War veteran. He retired from Enterprise Aluminum Company, as well as his own business. 

He was an avid fisherman and hunter.

Maj. Robert “Bob” Evan Engelauf, USAF (Ret.)

Eatonton -- In the morning hours of Wednesday, July 6, 2016, 77-year-old Bob Engelauf passed away at Putnam General Hospital.

He was born on Dec. 30, 1938 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Robert and Lura Smith Engelauf.

With great pride and honor he served 23 years in the United States Air Force, including time during the Vietnam War, before retiring with the rank of major. He was also a graduate of Georgia College where he received his master’s degree.

Following his military career, he was a longtime insurance agent with Prudential Insurance Agency, before becoming a self-employed insurance agent. He was also a past president of Peachbelt and NAIFA. 

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, who always enjoyed spending time with his beloved family and enjoyed “lake life.”

Mrs. Evelyn Pallaschke Wilson

Mrs. Evelyn Pallaschke Wilson, 89, passed away Monday, July 4, 2016.

The funeral service was private.

Mrs. Wilson was a native of Summitville, Pa. 

She was the daughter of the late Paul Pallaschke and the late Mary Rudnik Pallaschke. 

Mrs. Wilson was a retired lab technician for Rohm Haas Chemical Manufacturing. 

She moved from New Jersey to Jones County in 1992.

Mrs. Wilson is survived by her daughter Mary West of Haddock.

Mr. Miles Motes Jr.

Mr. Miles Motes Jr. of Kennesaw passed away Sunday, July 3, 2016.

He was born in Cobb County to Miles and Estelle Motes. 

Mr. Motes worked on his farm on Bells Ferry Road in Cobb County. He owned Motes Electrical.

He would teach young people how to work on the farm and electrical business. He enjoyed gardening and fishing. He would help others and worked at his church Friendship Baptist Church in Eatonton.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca Carter Motes.

Survivors include two sisters, Patricia and Richard Anderson, Lucille and Carl McClure; two brothers. Felton and Sherry Motes, James Earl Motes; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Audrey Hungate Vaughn

Mrs. Audrey Hungate Vaughn, 82, of Eatonton passed away, Monday, July 4, 2016. 

She was a native of Illinois and had lived in Wilkinson County for a number of years and had made her home in Eatonton for the past two years.

She was retired from the Washington County Regional Medical Center and was a member of Ivey Baptist Church.

She was predeceased by her parents, Donald and Blanche Dixon Hungate.

Survivors include her husband, Don Vaughn of Eatonton; daughter, Cindy Stanley of Steubenville, Ohio; sons, Don Kuehn (Judy) of Granite City, Ill., Jim Kuehn (Eileen) of Mascoutah, Ill. and Mike Kuehn (Cheryl) of O’Fallon, Ill.; stepchildren, Dan Vaughn and Rodney (Amanda) Vaughn of Milledgeville, Jessica Vaughn and Donald O. Vaughn of Greston; and 15 grandchildren.

Margaret Bray Rodgers

Margaret Bray Rodgers (Peggy) of Milledgeville went peacefully to be with the Lord on July 4, 2016. She was 88. 

She lived most of her adult life in Miami, Fla., where she worked as executive secretary for the Dade County School Board for more than 30 years.

She was responsible for the agenda for the weekly board meeting and could often be seen on the PBS TV station on the weekly telecast taking minutes of the meeting. She was a member of Milledgeville First United Methodist Church, where she attended regularly up until the onset of her illness. 

She is survived by sons Craig Rodgers (Karen) of Eatonton, Lee Rodgers (Ann) of Mentone, Ala., and Ralph Rodgers (Bonita) of Knoxville; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Stella Maddox Swindell, 78, passed away, Wednesday, June 22, 2016. 

Her funeral service was conducted 3 p.m. Sunday, June 26 at Eatonton First Baptist Church with Dr. Keithen Tucker officiating. Private interment followed in Pine Grove Cemetery. The family received friends at the church from 2 p.m. until the service hour.

Mrs. Swindell was a native of Morgan County and lived in Eatonton for many years. She was the daughter of the late Jefferson Maddox and the late Sulu Montgomery Maddox.

Mrs. Swindell was a retired certified court reporter and was a member of First Baptist Church. She always worked to make sure the church was decorated beautifully.

Ashley Gail Wilkie

Ashley Gail Wilkie, 33, of Eatonton, passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2016. 

She was born with cerebral palsy on March 9, 1983 to Bradley Morris Wilkie and Kay Reese.

She was greeted in heaven by her loving great-grandmother, Annie Long. She was also preceded in death by her great-grandfather, Louie Long Sr.; paternal grandfather, Morris Wilkie; and maternal great-grandparents, Lena and Loyd Styles.

The visitation was Thursday, June 23, 2016 at Vining Ivy Hill Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. The service was conducted at Vining Ivy Hill Chapel on Friday, June 24 at 2 p.m., officiated by Bill Barnes. The pallbearers were B.J. Cutler, Toby Kempson, Bob White and Keith Savage.

Deacon Marvin Ellison, 85, of 254 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Eatonton departed this life Wednesday morning, June 15, 2016 at his residence. 

Deacon Ellison was born on July 7, 1930 to the parentage of the late Floyd and Tommie Lee Ellison.

He was raised in a God-fearing home, where he was taught love and to always trust in the Lord. He was united in marriage to the former Dorothy Williams on July 22, 1963 and to this union five children were born. Two preceded him in death: Calvin Jerome and Eric Lenard Ellison.

He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior in 1964, when he joined Jenkins Grove Baptist Church and became a dedicated member and served as chairman of the deacon board for almost 50 years.

Mrs. Alice Mae Owens, 79, of 102 Loblolly Drive, Eatonton departed this life Thursday, June 9, 2016 at Eatonton Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Alice Owens was born on May 3, 1937 in Putnam County to the parentage of the late Emanuel Harden Sr. and Sylvia Harden. She grew up and attended school in rural Putnam County. 

She joined Free Gift Baptist Church at an early age. As a young woman, she moved to New York, where she worked at the Ocean View Nursing Home, where she retired. She then went on to work at the Grown and Jade East hotels.

Alice loved flowers and had an amazing green thumb. She also loved to cook and feed the whole community. Alice returned to Putnam County 11-1/2 years ago and continued to do the same activities for many years to come.
