Margharetta Phillips Gregory Brake
March 31, 1928 - January 24, 2018
After a long and happy life, Margharetta Phillips Gregory Brake of Eatonton, GA passed away peacefully on January 24, 2018 at the age of 89. She was the daughter of John Alexander Phillips and Selina Swann Phillips of Eatonton.
Margharetta was born in Eatonton on March 31st, 1928 and being the daughter of a cotton broker spent her childhood traveling between New Orleans, LA and Eatonton. She was married to Colonel James M. Gregory Jr. of Eatonton in 1946. Having been married to an Air Force Colonel, Margharetta and her family had the opportunity to live in several cities and countries around the world. After the sudden death of her first husband in 1971 Margharetta married Charlie T. Brake in 1973. Margharetta was a lover of dogs, nature, her family and all things beautiful. She was also active in the Putnam County Hospital Pink Ladies and the Garden Club of Eatonton. As a Military wife, she was active in the Officer’s Wives Club. Margharetta graduated from Eatonton High School and also attended GSCW in Milledgeville, GA.
She will be lovingly remembered by her four children, James M. Gregory III (Paula) of Stone Mountain, GA, Patricia Gregory Wilson, Steven Rosser Gregory (Sloan), and Elizabeth Reid Gregory of Eatonton. She is also survived by six grandchildren James M. Gregory IV, Mallory Gregory, Nathan A. Wilson, Kathryn Wilson Ross, Michele S. Gregory and Miranda Gregory Vesey. She leaves four great grandchildren, and her sister Elizabeth Phillips Carr of Pennsylvania also mourns her passing.

James Richard Cofer
September 12, 1936 - January 23, 2018
Mr. James “Jimmy” Richard Cofer, age 81, passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2018.
Services were Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Lakeside Baptist Church.
Mr. Cofer was born September 12, 1936 in Macon to the late Grady L. Cofer and the late Callie May Fusche. Mr. “Jimmy” served our country in the US Army. He loved hunting and spoiling his grandchildren. He was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church.
Survivors include his son, Todd (Gayle) Cofer of Eatonton; three grandchildren, Danielle (Chase) West, Dominic (Jennifer) Mazza, and Dalton (Elizabeth) Cofer; four great-grandchildren, Makayla West, Darcy West, Connor Mazza, and Jacob Mazza.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Lakeside Baptist Church Building Fund.

Carolyn Collins Erickson
June 8, 1931 - Dec. 31, 2017
Carolyn Goodwin Collins Erickson, age 86 passed away December 31st, 2017 in Eatonton.
A service of remembrance will be held at a later date at First Presbyterian Church in Milledgeville.
Carolyn was born in Memphis, TN June 8, 1931 and grew up in Jackson, MS. She graduated from Millsaps College with honors and later earned two masters degrees in psychology. She enjoyed working as a counselor for many years at Central State Hospital in Milledgeville. She also worked a thousand acre ranch and dairy in Nebraska that was a source of pride and joy. In her late fifties, she volunteered for the Peace Corps in Tunisia, Africa. A tragic fall cut her tour short and she returned to the States to rehabilitate. Characteristically, she proved her doctors wrong by learning to walk again. In her later years, she returned to her family's property in Mississippi and had a round house built, with a library. Carolyn wrote poetry, volunteered at the local historical society, raised roses, and had a passion for jigsaw puzzles. Four years ago, Carolyn moved to Eatonton to be near her son, David Erickson and his family; his wife, Paige and twin grandchildren, Hannah and Leland Erickson. For the next few years, she enjoyed family gatherings and lived on the family property and along with her longtime friend, Doris Moody, the other grandmother, enjoyed being near her family. Pursuing her passion for reading, she quickly became a regular at the Eatonton Public Library. Carolyn was a seeker and never stopped questioning and wanting to learn. She was also devoted to exercise, and her friends at the Harmony Crossing Body Plex, will miss her early morning arrivals. Carolyn attended First Presbyterian Church in Milledgeville and enjoyed their book club. She is predeceased by her parents, Virgil and Lucille Collins, and her second husband, Leland Erickson.
Survivors include her sister, Lucille Forestal of Palm Springs, CA; four children, Jeremy of Anchorage, AK, David of Eatonton, Jonathan of Guinea, Africa and Kim of Brandon, MS and four grandchildren, Isobel, Christian, Hannah and Leland.

Louise Thurmond Griffith
September 4, 1927 - January 27, 2018
Louise Thurmond Griffith 90, passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2018. Louise was born on September 4, 1927 in Winder, GA to the late Jesse and Lilly Mae Thurmond. She has lived in Eatonton for the last 63 years.
Louise was preceded in death by her parents, husband George William Thomas Griffith, children George Griffith Jr., Ann Million, step children Harold Griffith, Ray Griffith, Billy Joe Griffith and Sally Mae Griffith.
Louise enjoyed to cook and spend time with her loving family. Visitation was Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at Vining Ivy Hill Chapel from 11 AM to 1 PM followed by a service at 1 PM, burial will be at Crestlawn Memorial Gardens.
She is survived by her children Mary (Harvey) Denham, Jack (Jo) Griffith, Johnny (Laura) Griffith, Janie (Paul) Watson, Jeanette (Bubba) Herring, Scott Griffith all of Eatonton, GA, Troy Griffith of Homer, GA, 17 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Joe “Pat” Griner
August 19, 1944 - January 23, 2018
Joe “Pat” Griner age 73 of Eatonton passed away January 23, 2018 at his residence.
Funeral services were Friday, January 26, 2018 in Vining Ivy Hill Chapel with interment in the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville.
Joe was born in Blackshear August 19, 1944 to the late John Joseph Griner and Grace Dixon Griner. He was a veteran of The United States Army, a member of the Masonic Lodge, Shriners, and the VFW. In his spare time, Joe enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John Lester Griner.
Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years, Helga Griner; two daughters, Patricia (Norman) Buckner of McDonough and Sandy (Kenny) Sharp of Eatonton; three grandchildren, Johnathan Andrew Joseph Rainwater, Jessica Renee Rainwater and Amber Marie Buckner, all of McDonough; six great-grandchilden, Andrew Jay Rainwater, Landon Nathaniel Rainwater, Aubrey Grace Rainwater, Layton Daniel Rainwater, Emma Rose Rainwater, Lindsey Marie Young; two brothers, David (Jean) Griner of Blackshear and Jerome (Ludell) Griner of Patterson; two sisters, Gracie (Bob) Lee of Blackshear and Peggy Griner Duvall of Blackshear.
The family requests donations be made to The Shriners Hospital in his memory.

Leon Hall
September 15, 1936 - January 21, 2018
Mr. Leon Hall, age 81, passed away Sunday January 21, 2018.
Memorial services were Sunday, January 28, 2018 in the Pavilion at Sugar Creek Farms.
Mr. Hall was born September 15, 1936 to the late Mr. Charley Jackson Hall and the late Mrs. Tellie Hunt Hall. His greatest joy was working as a referee for the Newton County Recreation Department for 30 years. He was a member of Fountains of Praise Church and was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Hall, and grandson, Matthew Trea.
Survivors include two sons, Billy (Roxanne) Hall of Covington, and Barry (Barbara) Hall of Eatonton; five grandchildren, Nick Hall, Sabrina Patrick, Crystal Miller, Christopher Miller and Paul Collins and two great-grandchildren

Howard Lee Harrison
August 9, 1929 - January 28, 2018
Mr. Howard Lee Harrison, age 88, passed away Sunday, January 28, 2018.
Funeral services were Thursday, February 1, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Eatonton.
Mr. Harrison was born August 9, 1929 in Eatonton to the late Arnett Harold Harrison and the late Lora Lee Armour Harrison. He worked at The Peoples Bank for 26 years. He served our country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of Rising Star Masonic Lodge, as well as the Eastern Star, York Rite, Scottish Rite, Shrine and American Legion. Mr. Harrison was a retired fire fighter with the City of Eatonton, giving 24 years of dedicated service. He loved to help people.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Lucile Harrison of Eatonton; a niece, Elaine (Gerald) Grimes of Milledgeville; a nephew, Hollis (Karen) Harrison of Eatonton; a great-nephew, Brandon (Kelly) Grimes of Marietta; a great-niece, Alison (Hugh) Holcomb of Calhoun; two great-great nieces, Maddie Grimes and Anna Grimes of Marietta, and a great-great nephew, Hudson Holcomb of Calhoun.
