EATONTON, Nov. 8, 2017 -- Local authorities have Grove Street, Hudson Road and Church Street in Eatonton blocked as they investigate a shooting that took place there earlier tonight, The Messenger has learned. Two different people living in the area have confirmed that the shooting stemmed from an attempted burglary of a nearby residence.

Officers with the Eatonton Police Department along with a K-9 team were in the process of tracking the whereabouts of the would-be burglars.

Although social media posts say multiple arrests have been made, the newspaper has been unable to confirm that with authorities.

There are no reports of anyone having been injured. Neighbors of the site of the attempted burglary say the homeowner fired shots in the air, scaring off the burglars.

Officers still were on the scene at 10:30 p.m.
