Evelyn Brodus “E.B.” Adams, Jr.
December 8, 1948 - February 24, 2017
Mr. Evelyn B. "E. B." Adams, Jr. of 6723 Seven Islands Road, Madison departed this life Friday, February 24, 2017 at his residence.
Funeral services were Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Eatonton, Dr. Velde Hardy, Pastor, Rev. W. J. Reid, officiated, and Bishop Kenneth D. Jones, eulogist. Interment followed in the Mt. Plaesant Baptist Church cemetery.
Evelyn Brodus “E.B.” Adams, Jr. or “Bro” as he was affectionately known was born December 8, 1948 to the late Evelyn Brodus Adams, Sr. and Parthenia Crawford Adams of Godfrey, Georgia. Upon his confession of faith in Christ, at an early age, he was baptized by the late Rev. F.D. Clark at New Enon Baptist Church in Godfrey.
"E.B." attended public schools in Morgan County and later enlisted into the United States Armed Forces February 20, 1969. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant/ E-5 and served in the Vietnam War for several months. During his service, he received the National Defense Service Medal (SPS M-14), Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, and 2 O/S bars. These bars indicate that a soldier has served six months in an active combat zone. On September 23, 1970, he received his Honorable Discharge from the United States Army. While serving in the military, he learned a trade in electrical construction. After the military, he returned home to Morgan County and began a career path at Wellington Puritan. He also worked at Georgia Pacific for several years before landing a job at Pennington Seed where he worked until he retired.
“E.B.” enjoyed fishing, spending time with family and performing a wide range of maintenance projects and other odd jobs.
He was preceded in death by his father, Evelyn Brodus Adams, Sr. and brother, Alfonso Adams.
"E.B." leaves to cherish his memory a loving mother, Mrs. Parthenia Crawford Adams; two sons, Antonio Adams of Eatonton and James Adams of Madison; a step-son, Kojack Hyman; four sisters, Lesia Adams, Barbara (Gerald) Mapp and Edna (Gregory) Gilbert, all of Madison, and Shiroleen (Johnny) Hurt of Loganville; two brothers, Stewart Adams and Oscar Adams, both of Madison; one uncle, Elder Oscar Crawford; five grandchildren; a very special nephew, Cameron Adams, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Lounette Stone Garner
Mrs. Lounette Stone Garner, age 70, passed away Monday February 27, 2017.
Funeral services will be private.
Mrs. Garner was born in Coffee County, Alabama and was the daughter of the late William G. Stone and the late Vester Kyser Stone. “Granny”, as she was known to her family, was a strong willed person. She always thought of others, but thought of her family most of all. She loved her grandchildren as well as cooking, reading, gardening and watching daytime TV. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Garner and two brothers, Jack Stone and O'Neal Stone
Survivors include her daughter, Heather (Kenneth) Hodges of Eatonton; a son, William (Angela) Garner of Eatonton; five grandchildren, Michala and James Garner of Sparta, Elise Hodges, Kaydence Hodges and Kenneth Hodges, Jr., all of Eatonton; two sisters, Betty Jo Miller and Irma Dion, both of Florida; a brother, Warren Stone of Florida. a niece and three nephews.

Hazel Brookins Gilman
Hazel Brookins Gilman, age 81 passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2017.
Graveside services were Friday, March 3, 2017 in Baldwin Memorial Gardens with Rev. Jerry Bradley officiating.
Mrs. Gilman was a native of Deepstep, but had made her home in Putnam County for most of her life. She worked at J.P. Stevens and WalMart for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Helton and Catherine Durden Brookins, her husband, Frank G. Gilman and a sister, Elizabeth Parham.
Survivors include three daughters, Joyce Smith of Eatonton, Connie G. Johnson (Terrell) of Clarkesville and Debra Adams (Walt) of Cumming; a brother, Dwain Brookins of Milledgeville; three sisters, Thetis Pittman (Milton), Pauline Thompson and Tracie Spivey (David), all of Milledgeville, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to ARF of Putnam County.

Dianne Cotton Oliver
Mrs. Dianne Cotton Oliver, age 75, passed away Saturday February 25, 2017.
Funeral services will be private.
Mrs. Oliver was born in Atlanta and moved to Lake Sinclair when she retired. She was the daughter of the late Joe Cotton and the late Margaret Nicholson Cotton. Mrs. Oliver loved to crotchet and spend time looking at Lake Sinclair. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Holt Oliver.
Survivors include her daughter, Lisa Galli; her son, Holt Oliver, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, all of Eatonton.

Darryl Smith
September 24, 1970 - February 25, 2017
Darryl Smith, age 46 of Eatonton departed this life Saturday, February 25, 2017 at his residence.
Funeral services were Saturday March 4, 2017 at Pinkerton Grove Baptist Church in Eatonton, Rev. Willie C. Jones, Sr., Pastor, officiated. Interment followed in the Greater Bell's Chapel Baptist Church cemetery in Eatonton.
Darryl was born September 24, 1970 in Milledgeville to his late parents Everette Smith, Sr. and Lizzie B. Smith.
Darryl or "Smokey" as he's fondly remembered was an honor graduate of Putnam County High School's class of 1989. He later pursued his education in Computer Technology. He worked at Permatherm in Monticello for 14 years until his health declined.
Darryl was preceded in death by his brother, Arthur Smith (Goat) and his grandparents.
His memories will be cherished by his only son, Mr. Darryl Smith, Jr.; brothers, Mr. Everette “Ed” Smith, Jr., Mr. Willie F. Joe Gene Ward
March 8, 1946 - February 24, 2017
Mr. Joe Gene Ward, age 71 transitioned to eternal life Friday, February 24, 2017 at Agape Hospice Center.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 3, 2017 at Bernard's Chapel, in Eatonton, Minister Terry Dorsey officiated and presented the eulogy. Burial followed in Eastside Eatonton City Cemetery.
Joe was born March 8, 1946 to the late Ms. Leola Ward and was reared in Newton and Putnam Counties. He was educated in both school systems. He began working at Eatonton Manufacturing Company and later gained employment at Enterprise Aluminum Plant in Eatonton, where he remained until it closed in 1987. Joe retired from the Putnam County Board of Commissioners on June 30, 2006.
Joe met and married Helen Gordon, and to this union, two children were born; Yolanda Clarice and Joe Terrance. Joe loved being with his “buddies”. Everyone who knew him, saw his smile first. He loved laughing and talking with others and never met a stranger.
On Sunday, February 19, 2017, Joe accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was baptized by Minister Terry Dorsey in the presence of our Lord and his family, including his daughter, son and his sister.
Joe was preceded in death by his mother, Ms. Leola Ward; his brother, Melvin Ward and his sister, Druella Ward.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Sherry Devoe (Charles) of Covington, Yolanda Birston (Stetson) of Bishop and Joe T. Ward (Martina) of Eatonton; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; a very loving and caring sister, Louise Dixon of Eatonton; three nephews; two nieces, a host of relatives and friends.
