Gators make run into Elite Eight
After defeating Westfield in the sudden death play-in game of the region playoffs, the Gatewood Gators traveled to Albany on Feb. 22 to face the No. 1 seed Deerfield-Windsor Knights. The Gators entered the game with high hopes, for the Knights split regular season games with the Westfield Hornets.
Deerfield started the contest with a strong performance, outscoring the Gators 11-10 in the first quarter. However, the Gators responded with an impressive second quarter to end the half. Going on a 14-7 run, Gatewood entered the locker room at halftime with a 24-18 advantage.
The Gators would not relinquish this lead in the second half. Gatewood would extend its lead by 3 points in both the third and fourth quarters. The Knights would be upset by the No. 4 seed Gatewood Gators with a resounding 50-38 decision.
