Friday’s games at Monticello High School will have major implications beyond being the regular-season finale and positioning for the Region 8-AA tournaments for both Putnam County High School boys and girls basketball teams.

Both the PCHS boys and girls teams could go into Friday’s games with a home game in the opening rounds of the region tournament on the line.

“If we win the boys game, we'll get to host the opening round. Same thing with the girls... they win, we get to host the opening round of the girls region tournament at our place,” said PCHS athletic director Jack Williams.

“If things fall our way, we could be hosting the opening rounds of the region tournament for both the boys and girls.”

Boys basketball coach Johnny Williams said a win Friday night in Monticello would be big for the PCHS community.

"First in would be good for our fans," said Williams.

"It would also be good because the team wouldn't have to travel."
