Mr. Van Edward Griffin, 61, of 109 Sunnyland Drive, Eatonton, Ga., departed this life Monday, Jan. 14, 2019 at his residence.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019 at Jefferson Baptist Church, 495 Harmony Road, Eatonton. Rev. Sidney Jackson officiated; burial followed in the church cemetery.
Van was born in Eatonton, Putnam County, July 27, 1957, to parents Marie Walton Griffin and the late Milledge Griffin, Jr. Van attended Butler Baker School and continued his education at Putnam County High School, where he was top of his class and a very smart student. He was a member of the Putnam County High School Band and served as the Drum Major. Van graduated from Putnam County High School in 1975 and went on to attend Morehouse College for two years. Van was very intelligent and honorable, loving his family, friends and anyone he met. He lived like he wanted to and was very carefree (whatever Van wanted to do, Van did it). At an early age, he accepted Christ as his personal Savior and joined St. Johns AME Church. Van had one sister who preceded him in death, Dorothy Ruth Griffin.
Van leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted mother, Marie Griffin, Eatonton; three brothers, Issac Griffin and Merf Griffin, Eatonton, Ronnie (Shirley) Walton, East Point, Ga.; five uncles, Ralph Walton and Ernest Lee Walton, Eatonton, Harry (Doris) Walton, Decatur, Ga., Jerry Lewis Griffin, Atlanta, Ga., and Shelton Griffin, Calif.; one aunt, Dennie Walton, Eatonton; a special nephew, Toney Griffin, Eatonton; nephew, Ronnie Walton, Jr., Norcross, Ga.; four nieces, Twanna Walton and LaRhonda Walton, East Point, Javon Lee, Snellville, Ga., and Jaquala Griffin, Decatur; great-nieces and great nephews; and all other cousins, family and friends.
