Mr. Thomas “T.J.” Jackson VanHouten Sr., age 81, passed away Sunday, Sept. 8, 2019. Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday afternoon, Sept. 12, 2019 in Great Hall at First United Methodist Church of Eatonton. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until the service time. Burial will take place at 2 p.m. Friday Afternoon, Sept. 13, 2019, at Fredonia Congregational Methodist Church in Barnesville.
Mr. VanHouten was born on Feb. 13, 1938, in Culloden to the late Jackson Garrett VanHouten and the late Gracie Kate Smith VanHouten. T.J. loved fishing, bird hunting and had a passion for light construction. He also loved scuba diving and reading. He was a volunteer firefighter and a member of the masons. He was an Eagle Scout who also was awarded the Vigil for the Order of the Arrow. He was a member of the First United Methodist church where he served on the staff pastor relationship committee and the nominating committee. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Stanley VanHouten and David VanHouten; and his daughter, Zackie VanHouten Boen.
T.J. is survived by his wife, Ann VanHouten of Eatonton; son, Thomas Jackson VanHouten, Jr. and wife Mistie of Burleson, Texas; sisters, Kathey Turner and husband Wendell of Zebulon and Marsha VanHouten of Kingsland; brother, Marcus VanHouten and wife Randee of Monroe; sister, Denise Dixon and husband Eddie of Acworth; sistersin-law Linda VanHouten of Goshen, Ky., Mary VanHouten of Butler, Emily Brown and Faye Walker and husband Bobby, all of Barnesville; and grandchildren, Thomas Jackson VanHouten III, Maxwell Reed and Samantha Ann.
