WHAT: BUDGET HEARINGS FOR MILLAGE RATE WHEN: 6:45 p.m. Sept. 4 WHERE: Putnam County Commissioners Meeting room #203, 117 Putnam Dr., Eatonton MORE INFO: The budget being considered by the Eatonton City Council requires a millage rate higher than the rollback millage rate to be able to maintain and continue to provide much needed services to the citizens of Eatonton. Before the budget is finalized, Eatonton City Council members must hold three public hearings on the tax increase so concerned citizens may express their opinions.

WHAT: THE MAGNIFICENT PLANETS BAND: 50TH ANNIVERSARY CONCERT WHEN: 8 p.m. Sept. 7 WHERE: The Black Heritage Plaza, downtown Milledgeville MORE INFO: Free admission. The stars have aligned to bring The Planets Band to Milledgeville as part of Milledgeville’s First Friday events and also to celebrate the band’s 50th anniversary reunion. The Planets Band plays funk-style music, a genre that originated in the African-American communities in the mid-1960’s when African-American musicians created a rhythmic, danceable new form of music through a mixture of soul music, jazz, and rhythm and blues. Funk music has been showcased by artists like James Brown, Prince, and Chaka Khan. On the local forefront of the funk-genre, The Planets Band was born.

Madison Avenue, Eatonton MORE INFO: The Plaza Alliance for the Performing Arts (PAPA) presents the hilarious and touching comedy, The Dixie Swim Club. The Dixie Swim Club is the story of five women who are former members of a swim team in college. Be prepared for a good time with side-splitting laughs as these women discuss men, marriage, and the challenges of aging. September 13-15 at 7:00 pm and a 2:00 pm matinee on Sunday, September 16. WHAT: KINDERHOOK FIRE ASSOCIATION’S FIRST ANNUAL FAMILY FUN DAY WHEN: 10 a.m. Sept 15 WHERE: Kinorhook BBQ Restaurant, 103 Mockingbird Dr. SW, Eatonton, just off Hwy 129. MORE INFO: The event will be free for kids 12 and under. Kids activities include a waterslide, bounce house, games, horseshoes and more.
