STMA Holds Annual Membership Meeting and Sara’s Salon Talk Aug. 23

Posted in:

The Steffen Thomas Museum of Art invites the public and its members to the Annual Meeting of the Membership at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 23. Immediately following the meeting, STMA will host a free reception and Sara’s Salon Talk on the current exhibition, Steffen Thomas: Casting the Net of Brotherhood, to be delivered by guest curator Alice Lee Andreottola.

The evening will celebrate the Museum’s past year and provide a preview of events and art exhibitions for the coming twelve months. Outgoing members of the Board, C. Wilson DuBose, Mary P. Jones and Mary Ann Orr, will be recognized for their service, and the Museum will announce its Volunteers of the Year. Additionally, the membership will vote on the slate of officers for new members of the Board and the Executive Committee for FY2019 will be announced.

Sara’s Salon Talks are casual events designed for anyone curious about art. The Aug. 23 talk will offer insight into Steffen Thomas’ concept of the Brotherhood of Man, a theme Thomas developed over his entire career. Three strong themes - brotherhood, family of man and motherhood – drove the selection of works on paper and sculptures for this exhibition. Andreottola’s talk will enlighten guests on how Thomas’ philosophy of the unity of all people - despite their religion, sex, nationality and citizenship – is expressed in the art selected for the show.

Guests should arrive at 6 PM for the meeting, reception, and Sara’s Salon Talk. The reception and Talk are scheduled to begin between 6:30 and 6:40 p.m.

Steffen Thomas: Casting the Net of Brotherhood will close on Saturday, Sept. 1 at the Steffen Thomas Museum of Art. The museum hours are from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The museum is located at 4200 Bethany Rd. in Buckhead. For more information, contact 706- 342-7557 or visit www.steffenthomas.org. A small admission fee for non-members. Please call the museum for further questions.
