Owners of a local collection box for used clothing cannot keep up with the generosity of Eatonton citizens.
The donation station is located at the Quick Pantry on Oak Street across the road from Putnam County Elementary School. Apparently, the donation box receives such a large response from givers that for several months the items have been falling out of the box and onto the ground around the parking lot of the convenience store.
Eatonton City Council Member Janie Reid complained about the eyesore at council meetings, and the area remained clear of the donations for a while. Recently, however, the items have started overflowing again.
There are several of the boxes around Eatonton, but this one container seems to get the most traffic.
Reid said in one meeting that there were several local agencies that take donations so givers would not be left without a convenient spot to drop off their merchandise.
Some of those organizations include Putnam Christian Outreach and Putnam County’s Department of Family and Children Services. Several churches offer a drop-off spot as well.
