John A. Clements Jr. departed of his earthly life on March 17, 2020.
Funeral Services were held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 2020 at Union Springs Baptist Church, 1400 W. Main St., Rutledge Georgia 30663, Pastor Robert L Terrell Jr., Pastor and Eulogist and Pastor Derrick Worrell, Presiding. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
John was born Jan. 6, 1946 in Putnam County as one of eight children to the late John A. Clements, Sr. and Maureen Braswell Clemons. At the tender age of 15, John work at Rock Eagle 4-H Center as a maintenance person in the dining hall. In 1963, he graduated from the Butler Baker High School in Eatonton, John proudly served in the United States Army. He did a tour in Germany and was honorably discharged. Early on, John was employed by Lockheed Martin in Atlanta, he also worked at Horton Homes and retired after 39 years. John was a successful entrepreneur and community leader in Putnam County. He faithfully served as Putnam County commissioner - District 1 from 2009-2012. John served as a trustee of the Griggs Chapel AME Church and was very instrumental in the building of the new sanctuary and the paying off of their loan. Later he joined the Union Springs Baptist Church along with his wife Margaret and faithfully served the Deacon Ministry, Trustee Ministry, Van Ministry, and on the Finance Committee. John loved this church and was always willing to volunteer to serve in any way needed. He was also instrumental in the building of the new sanctuary for Union Springs Baptist Church and was able to see the church paid for before his death. In addition to John’s father, he’s preceded in death by one brother, Jack Clemons and a brother-in-law, E. Waymon Hughey.
John is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 26 years, Margaret Curington Clements; His dear mother, Maureen braswell Clemens; his daughter, Nicole Clements Crawford; his stepdaughter, Minister Tony (Pastor Robert) Terrell Jr.; His sisters, Shirley Hughey, Lorene (Earnest) McRae, Rosell (Herbert) Stokes; his brothers, Grady (Frankie) Clemons, Larry Clemons and Willie Clemons; and one sister-in-law, Doris Clemons.
