Highgate Estate & Gardens is hosting Georgia Country Music Female Artist of the Year nominee, Amy Rae, Sept. 22 at 6 p.m.
“Really, I have been singing my entire life,” Rae said of her childhood with roots in Jasper County. “Pretty much in church, and then from there it was popular music in high school, and then when I turned 18, I started doing cover bands.”
These days, Rae is doing her own thing. She credits gigs in Conyers with jumpstarting her career which has now spanned to weekly performances while juggling a job in graphic design and sound directing.
“This past May I played the Suwannee River Jam out of White Oak, Fla.,” she said. “I played the opening night and Alan Jackson was the headliner for that festival.”
Rae’s music crosses genre lines. She harbors a love for rock music but found her voice in country.
“Country music is considered my genre,” she said. “But, I put my own heavy rock twist to it.”
The playlist for Highgate’s event includes everything from Nirvana’s “Teen Spirit” to Journey to “She’s Country” by Jason Aldean. Her shows include originals as well, which typically appeal to listeners in their late 40’s to mid-fifties. Her shows in general attract fans 30 to 60 years old.
Rae was a finalist for Female Artist of the Year in 2017. She said her chances of winning Female Artist of the Year for 2018 are “looking good.”
“So far, I have made it to the semi-finals,” she said.
Tickets to see Rae perform, which include appetizers, can be purchased at highgateestate.com/entertainment. There will be an open cash bar. More information about Rae can be found at www.amyraemusic.com.
