Elder Jesse Porter, Sr., 93, of 121 Sherwood Ave Eatonton, GA, transitioned to his eternal rest on Sunday, December 15, 2019 at his residence.

Funeral services were held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 21, 2019 at Union Baptist Church, 240 Martin Luther King. Jr Drive, Eatonton, GA, Pastor Johnny Harris, Sr., Eulogist.

Jesse Porter joined Union Baptist Church at the tender age of thirteen. He attended school in Eatonton at the Town School through eleventh grade. During the time, schools only provided eleven years of free public education. He graduated from the town school and went on to work as a bricklayer, carpenter, and painter. He was later drafted into the United States Army July 6, 1944 and completed induction at Fort Benning, GA. He trained and served as a Rifle Marksman and was sent to Central Europe where he earned a Bronze Star while serving in the Asiatic-Pacific along with a Good Conduct Medal and two overseas Service Bars. He received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Army August 17, 1946 at the Separation Center in Fort Sam, Houston, TX. His final rank was as Private First Class of the 4476th Quartermaster Service Company. Upon returning to civilian life, he began work as a painter at Warner Robins Air Force Base. He continued working there until his retirement thirty-one years later. During this time, he was commuting from Eatonton, GA to Warner Robins, GA. Jesse Porter served as a deacon for five years before being named the pastor of Union Baptist Church in 1963. He later moved his family to Warner Robins, GA in 1970. He continued to serve at Union Baptist church. He served faithfully as Pastor for more than forty-nine years. When his beloved wife took ill, he stepped away from his fulltime pastoral duties to become the full-time caretaker of his loving wife, Elizabeth, but continued to serve as Pastor Emeritus. Jesse is preceded in death by his only daughter, Brenda Denise Porter Jones and his dedicated and loving wife of sixty-two years, Elizabeth Marie Bailey Porter.

He leaves to cherish his memories four sons, Jesse G. Porter of Eatonton, Georgia, Cedric (Glenda) Porter of Swainsboro, Georgia, Dexter Porter of Weehuaken, NJ, and Thaddeus (Tonya) Porter of Montgomery, AL; 9 grandchildren, Rachel Kitchens of Americus, GA, Tommie Jones of Atlanta, GA, Troy Jones of Riverdale, GA, Christopher Porter of Los Angeles, CA, Daniel (Shana) Porter of Atlanta, GA, David Porter of Statesboro, GA, Benjamin Porter of Swainsboro, GA, Thaddeus Porter Jr. of Mobile, AL, and Justin Porter of Montgomery, AL. Among his many children and grandchildren he leaves five great-grandchildren, Aurion Tommie of Americus, GA, Auriana Porter, Alaina Porter, and Azaria Porter, all of Atlanta, GA and Taylor Denise Jones of Atlanta, GA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, friends, co-workers, and other cherished loved ones.
