Ms. Dorothy Lawson Melton departed this life on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2019, in Boston, MA.

Funeral services were held at noon Saturday, Dec. 14, 2019 at New life Outreach Christian Center, 206 Agnes, Eatonton, GA, Pastor James Kilgore, Sr. officiated. Burial followed in Eastside Cemetery.

Dorothy was born on July 6, 1948, in Eatonton, GA, to the late Isaac and Bernice (Crawford) Lawson. Dorothy was a 1966 graduate and received her formal education at Butler Baker School in Eatonton, GA, Murphy High School in Atlanta, GA, and continued her education in Job Corps. She was a member of the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Boston, MA, where she served on the usher board. She was also an Eastern Star. Dorothy was employed at Honeywell, in Massachusetts, for several years. Pursuing her passion for driving, Dorothy started a career as a bus driver and booth attendant at the (MBTA) Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, until her retirement. She had a desire to help others and became a home health care attendant after retirement. Dorothy loved driving and found comfort in driving to her home in North Carolina. She is preceded in death by her parents, Isaac and Bernice Lawson; two brothers, Bobby Lawson and Ralph (Doug) Lawson; and two nieces, Angela Lawson and Chynia Levester.

Dorothy leaves to cherish her memories: one daughter, Veronica Darlene Lawson of Eatonton, GA; three nieces, Sandra Lawson (Tommy) Riley of Eatonton, GA and Thomisha Sanford and India Sanford of Boston, MA; two nephews, Correy Lawson of Eatonton, GA and Derrell Sanford of Boston, MA; one brother, Johnny Brown (Barbara Jean) Ford of Eatonton, GA; six sisters; Beatrice (Joseph) Wiley of Teaneck, NJ, Norma Lawson, Elise Levester, and Wanda Lawson, all of Eatonton, GA, Patricia (Louis) Sanford of Unah, AL, and Dianne (Johnny) Collins of Augusta, GA; one aunt, Shirly Farley; two uncles, Peter Crawford of Eatonton, GA and Hubert (Joyce) Ford, of Lithonia, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, and loved ones.
