Champions honored before PCHS season kickoff

Posted in:

Members of the 1967 Putnam County Blue Devils football team, which won the state championship, were honored before the War Eagles’ kickoff on Friday.

Before the kickoff of the Putnam County War Eagles against North Oconee, the 1967 Putnam County Blue Devils football team and cheerleaders were honored for their unforgettable season. The 1967 team went undefeated that year before defeating Wadley High School, 49-0, and going on to defeat Davis High School on a freezing North Georgia night, 33-0. It marked the first and only state championship in school history. The team was led by legendary head coach Al Reaves, the namesake of Putnam County’s current football field. The pregame recognition of the 1967 team was a feel-good moment for all who remember a historic time in Putnam County history.
