With a much smaller than normal crowd, Elks members began their free junior golf clinics this week at Uncle Remus Golf Course.
Organizer and Elks Director Rusty Stevens said he anticipates much larger numbers for the next two events this month, scheduled on July 20 and 27.
“We’ve already had calls from some of our returning children who have said they will be here next week, so we are looking forward to a crowd,” Stevens said.
The Elks have been sponsoring the free golf clinic for children ages 5 through 12 for more than five years now, Stevens said.
“And, for three years in a row, we have won first place for our scrapbook on the event at the national level,” Stevens said. “The kids have a great time and we really enjoy doing it for them every year.”
The clinics run from 9 a.m. until noon each day and highlight proper skills of the game. Stevens said on the last day, the children will participate in a tournament, winning prizes for the best scores.
Uncle Remus Golf Course is a co-sponsor of the event.
